Lansing State Journal covers the new and flavorful addition to its downtown with the opening of Moka & Co., the city's first Yemeni coffee shop. Located at 565 E. Grand River Ave., this vibrant 2,700-square-foot cafe offers a unique menu centered around traditional Yemeni coffees, teas, and pastries. The editor highlights how Moka & Co. stands out for its use of light-roasted coffee beans, which deliver a less acidic, full-bodied flavor. Signature drinks like maleki—a blend of coffee husks, cream, spices, and honey—and Shai Yemeni, a black tea infused with cloves and cardamom, are complemented by both familiar and cultural desserts such as cheesecake and sabaya twist.

The café’s modern, open design, capable of seating more than 75 patrons, features murals created by local artists, providing a bright and inviting atmosphere perfect for Michigan State University students and local residents alike. Sufyan has ambitious plans to expand, with two more locations set to open in the Greater Lansing area in 2024—one in Okemos and another in Bath Township, the latter including a convenient drive-thru option. Moka & Co. offers more than just coffee; it’s an immersive experience in Yemeni culture, bringing bold flavors and a welcoming space to the heart of East Lansing.
